Hey y'all!
Elin's back in the house...or on blogspot at least!
I have been taking a long break from blogging because...I lost interest, that's all. But now I'm back and hopefully here to stay. I used to write in swedish but I thought that it was time for a change. Now over to writing about movies!
CASABLANCA - 1942
The first movie I write about just must have a swedish actor/actress, and the first one I came up with was the classical movie Casablanca. Where Ingrid Bergman plays the female protagonist, Ilsa Lund. You can't help but feel some pride of being a swede, when you know that Sweden has contributed so much to the film industry. Go Sweden!
This is a movie for the hopelessly romantic. Where you do everything to save the love of your life, even get her to leave for her own good.
The movie takes place in a the city of Casablanca during the second world war, 1942 to be exact.
The crook Ugarte has come across a "letter of transit" by murdering two German couriers. The paper allows the keeper to travel freely through German territory. He plans to sell them to stranded refugees. But he gets arrested before he gets the chance to sell them. Luckily he gave the papers to Rick before he got arrested. Humphrey Bogart who plays the male protagonist, Rick Blaine, owns a nightclub in the city called Rick's Cafe Américain. He went to Casablanca after splitting up with his big love, Ilsa Lund, in Paris. The surprise he got when he meet her again in his club in Casablanca after all that time. She's accompanied by Victor Lazlo, her husband and leader of Czech resistances. Victor is a fugitive, to survive the German army he needs to get to America. He finds out that Rick has the papers he need to get to America. But when he tries to buy them from Rick, he gets turned down. Rick doesn't what to sell the to Victor no matter the price. When Victor realize that, he turn to his wife, Ilsa. And asks her to persuade Rick to give him the papers. Ilsa and Rick meets in Rick's club and it doesn't take long until old feelings starts coming back. In the love Rick has for Ilsa he promised to help her and Victor, believing that Ilsa will stay with him when Victor leaves...Do their plan work or will they get captured?...If the plan works, will Ilsa stay with Rick or leave with Victor?...
If you want to find out...watch the movie!
I hope you enjoyed my first movietip and I hope you'll enjoy many more. I will write about the movies, the ones from the early days, to the more recent ones. I will not write every day, but at least once a week!
Until next time...
